Chiefs general manager John Simone said Wednesday the Chiefs planned to send e-mails to the Mets and other available teams at 12:01 a.m. today, and follow up with the calls.
The idea is to set up meetings and land the best Major League Baseball partner possible. But in the Chiefs’ case, it might be a case of trying to find the best consolation prize.
Simone and other Chiefs officials have said the Mets are Syracuse’s No. 1 choice. But according to a source at the Mets and media reports from Buffalo to New York City to Toronto, the Mets have decided to move their Triple-A club to Buffalo.
If the Mets are out, the Washington Nationals could be in. A story on the Nationals’ Web site said Syracuse was the leading candidate to land Washington’s Triple-A club.
But that story also said New Orleans could be in the mix for the Nationals.
